My therapeutic approach puts our relationship at the heart of it. And. It is vital that you know about my professional experience and qualifications; what knowledge, skills and understanding I have to make our time together something other than a pleasant hour talking with a kind-minded other.
I am a registered member (398554) of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). This means I meet their recommended quality standards, including undergoing training, supervision and continuing professional development. I adhere to all aspects of their Ethical Framework. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, required for positions that involve caring for, training, supervising or sole charge of children or vulnerable adults. I work under the Jurisdiction of UK law and guidelines.

I have over 25 years' rich experience working in the field of social, emotional and mental health. Prior to providing discrete counselling and psychology, I worked in education both in the UK and abroad, teaching in all key stages from Nursery to Adult Education. This included delivering a behaviour-based Government Funded Research Program for the Peninsula Medical School over a number of years (Exeter University) and as a tutor for another Government funded initiative: the National Program for Specialists in Behaviour and Attendance.

For 13 years I was a schools and colleges’ advisor for Devon County in the Behaviour: Social, Emotional and Mental Health Team and an associate advisor for the Special Educational Needs and Disability Team. During this time, I developed and/or delivered wide-ranging training across education settings and at conference workshops, including:
I sat as an independent SEND expert on Devon County exclusion panels and worked extensively alongside multi-agencies to support children, young people and families in crisis, predominantly with Health (CAMHS) and Social Care. I have extensive experience supporting Education, Health and Care Plans and families involved in Child In Need or Child Protection plans.
Most recently I have volunteered at the The Quiet Mind Centre Exmouth – an excellent charity providing counselling and psychotherapy for those on no/low income.

My personal interests also include holistic health and, while I categorically do not practice as part of my counselling and psychotherapy offer, my knowledge and understanding in the field enhances the work I do. Of particular interest, and subjects I have undertaken courses in, are Kinesiology, Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Reiki.
